How to Develop Safety Culture & Standards In Your Company

Every company wants to get better at what they do!

Safety Professionals and business owners know a team that is bought into the culture, company and direction will do amazing things.

The opposite is also true. Companies with teams that are just there to get a paycheck and that do not care can drag a company down. These teams have incidents, produce poor quality products and they destroy your company's reputation.

Most teams are somewhere in the middle. Their workforce is trying to do their best and would love to feel like they are on a winning team, but they don't have all the tools they require to get there.

This leads to the real question that we all need help with...

"What can we do to help our teams and coach them so that they can become highly functioning members of a proud, quality-driven company?"

The answer is to set up standards. The company standards are documented, then trained to our workforces starting with why we do what we do and then teach them the how.

Most companies have solid standards, but they struggle with teaching and implementing those standards regularly.

In this week's blog, David Brennan, Co-founder of Safety Evolution discusses techniques that he used in his career to set teams up for success.

He chats about easy ways you can use your Field Level Hazard Assessment to teach your team and give them a tool that will allow them to plan and set themselves up for success.

One of the hardest parts of implementing change is being able to proactively monitor, coach and follow up with your team.

It is pretty hard to have a meaningful conversation with your workers if you see their safety paperwork 2 days to 3 weeks after they fill it out.

The moment to collaborate is gone.

This is why you need to have Safety Management Software that allows you to see their documents in real-time.

A word of caution...many providers do not allow you to see it until the worker has submitted it, which means when the job is done.

You want to be able to see it as soon as the worker saves it for the first time.

Why is that?

The reason is that you want to be able to interact with your team. You want to be able to see what is happening and be able to take a moment when it is needed to train and mentor your team.
